PlayMemories Online is Sony’s personal photo and video sync service and is part of the Sony Entertainment Network.  The premise for PlayMemories Online was very simple: Access your personal photos and videos from anywhere on any device.  This included Web, Android, iOS, Bravia TV, Sony WiFi cameras & PlayStation.

Sony was an existing customer for Memeo Inc. and as the Director of Product Management at Memeo I was tasked with making the most out of the opportunity to do something much bigger.  I envisioned, researched and pitched the concept to Sony in October 2010.  Following acceptance of the proposal Sony contracted the initial design, development, implementation and operation of PlayMemories Online to Memeo Inc.  I lead both the Product Management and mobile engineering teams (both iOS & Android) until the public launch at CES 2012 by Sony CEO Kazuo Hirai.  Skip ahead to 16:12 to see the introduction in the video below.

As Director of Product Management at Memeo, I lead the design, product management and mobile engineering teams from the concept phase through to the initial release.

Samples of the initial web client release.  These applications were created by the web engineering team at Memeo.  I did not lead this team, however my team and I provided the specifications, designs and assets.

Wireframes & Designs

Wireframes were created and provided to engineering for each platform before engineering work would begin.  Throughout the development process the wireframes were updated and were often the starting point of discussions between product management, design and engineering.  These wireframes were created by members of the design team, who worked under my supervision throughout the project.

PlayMemories Online transitioned to Sony’s internal operations & development team in September 2013 and remains an important part of Sony’s cloud services.
